So Im reading Uber and I'm thinking Downfall meets Dragonball Z. Thats the only fucking way to discribe this book. Basicly its the closing days of the war and Russia are kicking the Germans as as the enter Berlin. Hell even some of the Nazie soldiers are turning tale. In one moment when one such poor soul trys to surrender to a Russian Tank we get to meet the ubermensch who all have battle ship code names and rightly fucking so. They lay waste to an entire tank devision and dont break a sweat. Basiclly the germans have perfected the superman and are now turning the tide much to the worry of the Allies.
The source of the power is a red stone which when exposed to certain humans enhances them mentally and psychically. The Allies do get some samples of their own thanks to sexy English spie and trys to make its own super men in a very Captain America like set up.
kieron Gillen's script is top notch and riddle with black humor with some savagely gore filled moments that while should shock you make you actully laugh at how over the fucking top they are. Cannan Whites art work is really nice and sharp.
This book is a wicked take on world war two and totally destroys the romance of the like of the Captain America books but in a strange way also pays homage to them. Uber while is very very gore'y you cant take it too serous and it not as graphic in other aspects which Avatar books are.
Uber earns a solid 9/10
The Horror,the Horror!
My review of the most hardcore/gore filled graghic novels out at the moment.

Ferals volume 1-3
Imagine the Howling on acid then you got Ferals. This wickedly savage comic is werewolves done Avatar Press so you know shits going to be gorey.
The book starts off with Sheriff Dale Chestnut looking into the death of a local man who has been torn to bits and has had his dick stuffed into his mouth ((just in case you forgot your reading an Avatar book))
Dale is stumped and goes to his local bar two drown his sorrows only to have heated sexual encounter with a strange beauty in the bars bathroom. This woman seems to bring out a more aggressive side and when that woman winds up dead along with the murder mans wife who Dale slept with the local cops seem to suspect Dale himself.
Turns out the killers a werewolf and Dale is now infected but not from a bite but from fucking the strange woman who comes from a community of Viking women who's men are Ferals. Premade werewolves who have amazing powers which include advanced healing and reflex's all of which Dale has now. The First volume leaves us with one hell of a cliffhanger and If I go into the books too much I'll ruin it on ye.
The art work from Gabriel Andrade is astounding be it action scenes or gore....this man dosent shy away from drawing what needs to be drawn. Of course this is a David Lapham book so your going to have to draw some fucked up shit...but well written fucked up shit.
Like Crossed before it this sure as shit aint going to be for everyone and if your any way a feminist give this book a wide fucking berth.
Ferals volume 1-3 8/10

Crossed
Ahe Avater press we meet agien. Right I should tell you that if extreme horror is this companies bread and butter then Crossed is its Hovies. This comic has made a mint for Avater which is cool cause I love Garth Ennis but is also worries me considering how fucked up it is and what kind of nutbag might read it
((Me *cough*))
So some form of infection spreads across the United States in the form of a crossed rash on the face. The people who are infected become the most sickest, savage and perverted forms of life. Like with zombies infection can be transferred via blood, saliva and another where the crossed have their wicked way with you. Gimme zombies tearing me limb from limb any day.
We're left with a bunch of survivors very like the walking dead crew and while you could make many comparasions with both groups you find yourself wanting to distance yourself from the crossed crew their not better or worse then Rick Grimmes happy bunch but you do relise their stable's are very different. In the Walking Dead our heros are trying to maintain their humanity while trying to survive while in Crossed our "hero's" relise they have to lose their in this world gone mad. A an ugly world it is at that. The crossed are every vile thought brought to life and at first glance this comic will and I mean will come across as a snuff book. But read it one or two more times if your stomach can handle it and youll see Ennis is trying to tell us somthings about ourselves, socitey and how somtimes it we might not need the Crossed to damn us we do a very good job on our own.
The art is exellent and Jacen Burrow's look of the Crossed is wicked. Other artist have done their own Crossed comic look but Burrow's grinning sickos really send a chill up your spine.
Speaking of the other Crossed stories it kinda bugs me that they seem to be suffering from Saw syndrome.
Each book is really trying to up the anti with gore and shock tactics and dont get me wrong thats what Ennis used in the first book but there was a human element there....a story. They all lack that conviction....and as my mate Mike pointed out some real vindacation. This one is dark.messy and gut wrenching but at least your left with hope. Avoid Crossed Family Values and Psychopath your wish to avoid mental scaring. Crossed 3D aint so bad but its waffer thin and wish you were here seems to go back to the human element. All in all Crossed volume one isnt a bad book but it sure as shit wont be for everyone. For fans of extreme horror comics I recommend it along with a hot soapy shower after reading.
I give Crossed an 8.5/10

With the advent of the Walking Dead tv series and the launch Abandons own Nestor Ive decided to create horror comic blog where I take a look at some of the most hardcore horror comics coming out at the moment. I do intend to do an entire post on the Walking Dead comic's having followed the series since its launch.
Terror Inc
Being a fan of the Marvel Max Punisher I stumbled upon this very cool superhero/horror story which is basicly a reboot of an obsure Punisher foe from the 80's .
Imagine if John Carpenters the Thing was a superhero. Mr Terror is like-able but rotten ((I do mean rotten))
killer for hire. It sets up his back story that Mr Terror is a former Vandle warrior who sacked Rome and as a result is cursed with immortality yet keeps rotting away. Terror has to replace is limbs and body parts. Fast track to present day Terror is hired for his killer attitude and ability to replace is head with that of his target.
David Lapham Writes Terror with sly charm and a wicked sense of humour. He gives the story enough twists and turns to keep or hero on his many replacement toes. Some might argue that this is not a horror comic but trust me the gore and blood runs a plenty and theres a rather creepy moment where Terror witness's the cruel demise of a friend of his at the hands of some hoods through her own eyes. Patrick Zircher down and dirty art lends itself well to the whole tone of the story.
Id give this tale of Mr Terror 8.5/10
Black Gas
Avater has released a slew horror and when Avater press do Horror they dont hold back, Crossed being their crowning jewel in there collection. In their ever expanding collection of gore filled sagas zombie's are the prime blood-letters. Warren Ellis weaves a tale of mindless maneating murders with Blackgas a six part mini-series. Set on an volcanic island off the east coast of the United states were introduced to Tyler and Soo two love birds who come to the island to visit Tylers folks. While treking the hills of Smokey island the volcano goes off tossing a foul gas into the lower part of the island resulting in a savage transformation of the locals. The last three issues of the series show the affect of the gas on the mainland.
To tell the truth BlackGas isnt anything we havent seen before and if your a reader of either Avaters Crossed or Night of the living Dead series the shock factor has little merrit here. I mean sure zombie's that bugger their prey is still fucked up but weve seen it in Crossed. Also Ellis dosent linger on our hero's too much so while thier deaths do come as a suprise we havent really connected much with them to give a damn.
Max Fiumara's art is good but you never feel it does the story justice...it's static in parts and it never feels like the zombies are really a threat. but BlackGas's main problem is it's printed buy a company that's done this loads of time before but much much better.
I give this metal zombie tale 6/10
